CALL
FOR PARTICIPATION
The
Academic Committee of the 10th National Congress of Teachers and Students of
English wishes to invite teacher trainers, teachers, researchers, material
writers, and other professionals in fields connected to ELT, translation and
interpreting, and education in general to share their views, ideas, projects and
experiences with colleagues from all over the country.
The theme
chosen for this year’s Congress: “Recycling Teaching Strategies” has been
thought of as including two different dimensions: a practical one (strategies,
techniques, procedures and methods for concrete classroom practice) as well as a
more theoretical one (the consideration of models, paradigms and systems of
beliefs for teaching and learning languages). Therefore, presentations dealing
with both concrete classroom applications and more general reflections on
teaching, language and education are encouraged (Within this general framework,
presentations that include reports of or proposals for innovative classroom
practice or new theories, methodologies or ways of looking at language and
language learning and teaching will be favored).
Only
proposals for WORKSHOPS with a strong component of participation of the audience
will be accepted. All workshops will be 60 minutes long and workshop leaders
should be prepared to conduct one repeat of their presentations if required. The
Committee will allocate the workshops in such a way as to offer the Congress
participants as much variety as possible at any given slot and therefore expects
workshop leaders to be prepared to make themselves available at any of the times
scheduled for workshops. Workshop leaders will be notified of the times when
they are expected to conduct their workshops at least 20 days before the date of
the opening of the Congress.
Of all
the proposals submitted, the Academic Committee will select a maximum of ten for
presentation during the Congress. The Committee will notify all applicants of
their decisions stating clearly the reasons for rejecting or accepting the
proposal. All of these communications will be sent to applicants via electronic
mail by June 15th. All
decisions by the Academic Committee are final.
All
proposals must contain the following sections:
1. Workshop
Leader Proposal Form. In the case of workshops conducted by more
than one leader, the workshop leader proposal form should be adapted in such a
way that it contains all the relevant information about the people who will run
the workshop.
2. An
abstract
of their
presentation as the workshop leader wishes it to appear in the Congress book.
This abstract should not be longer than 100 words and should give Congress
participants a clear idea of the content of the workshop so as to help them to
choose which workshop to attend.
The
applicant should refer to himself /herself using the third person of the
singular. Successful candidates might eventually be asked to re-write parts or
all of the abstract, in which case one of the members of the Committee will be
appointed to guide the workshop leader.
3. A summary
of the content and dynamics of the workshop which must not exceed two A4 pages. The
Academic Committee will base their acceptance or refusal of the proposal on this
summary exclusively.
4. A
biographical statement which should not be longer than 50 words (in
the case of workshops run by more than one leader, 50 words per workshop
leader).
The
Academic Committee will also accept proposals that require the use of a computer
laboratory (18 computers available).
Proposals
should be written in the language in which the workshop leader is to be run. The
official language of the 10th Congress is:
English.
The deadline for presentation of
proposals is 28th of May.
All
applications for presentations that promote commercial interests will be
directly disqualified. Applications by presenters, which offer commercial
presentations for the sponsors of the Congress, will not be
accepted.
Workshop
leaders are full members of the Congress and as such they are expected to pay
the regular Congress fee to attend it.
All
Workshop leaders are entitled to a Diploma, which clearly states his or her
participation in the Congress as a Workshop leader (Diploma de Disertante). This
Diploma will be presented to workshop leaders in the closing
ceremony.
